We have two services, Internal Medicine and Urgent Care, which have separate pages for expectations and booking appointments.
INTERNAL MEDICINE APPTS
|
STEP 3Appointment Day:
|
Our main office is now in Louisville, KY, where we also offer Urgent Care.
At our satellite location in Evansville, we operate out of another business, VCA APEC. Scroll down to the bottom of this page for complete details about what to expect at each VSP Specialty Appt. This can vary depending on the case and what type of appointment. Call or Text 502-901-7990 with any questions! |
Cancellation PolicyOur goal is to provide excellent care to each patient in a timely manner. If it is necessary to cancel or reschedule an appointment, clients are required to call or leave a message at least 24 hours before their pet’s appointment time. Notification allows the practice to better utilize appointments for other patients in need of prompt medical care.

New Consultation
- Please be sure to fast your pet for the appointment unless otherwise instructed. I.e. No food after midnight the night before. Water can be available at all times.
- Bring all current medications with you and detail any questions you would like to address on the New Patient History and Registration Form (Click HERE for Louisville, Click HERE for Evansville).
- You will be greeted by VSP staff to go over the history form that you've filled out and make sure we have all of the medical records and most up to date information
- A VSP Clinician will perform a physical exam and discuss differential diagnoses and recommendations for additional work-up
- Work-up, which may include imaging (such as abdominal ultrasound or echocardiogram), will be performed that day as possible, but some tests may be pending as we send out to outside laboratories for many tests.
- Summary of the findings and plan will be discussed with you prior to discharge
- You will receive written notes detailing the exam findings, diagnostics, recommendations and treatment plan, either at the time of discharge or via email within 24 hours of the appointment
- Your veterinarian will receive copies of all records and diagnostics.
- Whenever your pet is discharged with VSP, a plan will be set for the next appointment. We usually detail this plan on the discharges, but sometimes the plan will be set in a fax update if there was pending lab work. The follow-up plan will detail what tests are needed and when they should be performed so you should know what to expect at each appointment.
Recheck
- Many of our patients will be diagnosed with chronic conditions or will need follow up for an extended period of time. We offer two options to recheck these patients: Afternoon recheck appointments and early morning drop off appointments.
- Physical exams will be performed by a VSP doctor at EVERY recheck appointment.
- Communication for our recheck appointments are generally handled by our technician team to keep the process as streamlined as possible for you and your pet and to keep costs as low as possible. If unexpected results were obtained or if your pet is not doing well, a VSP doctor will speak with you to go through your pet's clinical issues and revise the plan.
- However, you can always request to speak with the doctor, even if the results are routine. VSP offers a "Doctor recheck" upon request for an additional fee if you prefer to speak to the doctor directly .

- When you arrive, a technician from VSP will meet with you and go over the recheck history form you filled out to clarify any questions we may have. An estimate will be provided for the planned tests. The technician will take your pet for a VSP doctor to examine and for the tests to be performed. If the lab work results and plan are routine and expected, the technician will go over the information at discharge, and you will receive a written copy of the plan and test results.
Drop Off
- Many of our patients will be diagnosed with chronic conditions or will need follow up for an extended period of time. We offer two options to recheck these patients: Afternoon recheck appointments and early morning drop off appointments.
- Drop-off appointments are a good option for clients who need to go to work or run errands and wish to leave their pet for the day. This type of appointment is required for procedures and post-pill ACTH Stim rechecks.
- Physical exams will be performed by a VSP doctor at EVERY recheck appointment.
- Communication for our drop-off appointments are generally handled by our technician team to keep the process as streamlined as possible for you and your pet and to keep costs as low as possible. Exceptions are if sedated procedures are being performed or if your pet isn't doing well, in which case a VSP doctor will speak with you directly.
